Mr. Curwen’s air conditioning and heating stopped working, building-wide. The lights came on, but no whirring.
An HVAC system might have many vents, but they all outflow from the same intake duct and central fan. If there’s a problem with the motor or fan on that external unit, nothing connected to it is going to work properly. As it turned out, the fan was badly warped and needed replacement. We scrubbed the vent grates, replaced the filters, and cleaned the duct interiors while replacing the fan wheel. A clean HVAC system will last much longer before it needs further maintenance!
